Airtel goes Wi-Fi

Leading Mobile service provider in India, Airtel has launched its Wi-Fi services in eight hot spots of Mumbai. The hot spots are Cha Bar at Oxford bookstore, Bombay Gymkhana, Café Mocha outlets, Khyber, Indigo, Jewel of India, and Café Royal. By October end, it plans to expand by setting up hot spots in Olive Bar, Rodas, and the chain of Bombay Blues. It would also include high customer traffic areas like airport lounges and hotel lobbies. Wi-Fi technology uses a base-station, which enables laptops to automatically connect to the Internet on a wireless mode when brought in the hotspot area. The hotspots work on 802.11b wireless technology, and support peak download speeds of up to 11 Mbps. (Source: Techtree)
